I coach the Scholars and I am part of the setting team. I work with athletes on Mondays and Wednesdays and also spend time setting routes and boulders, washing holds and general setting maintenance.
I have been climbing for around 5 years. I began climbing on a youth team at Vertical Endeavors and then was an athlete on Scholars team and now I coach at the Academy. Outdoor climbing has by far been the main motivator for me, but I also have been participating in competitions for the past 4 years.
Outside of climbing I am somewhat busy. I am a sophomore in high school at Central High in St. Paul and in the fall I participate in Cross Country at my school but for the most part climbing takes up most of my time with getting outdoors and also climbing outside of practice. That’s about all I do other than typical high schooler life.
Sam’s go-to climbing destination
I would equally say Taylor’s falls, Rockville, Sandstone and Sawmill in Minnesota.
Sam’s Academy goals
I would like to set more mock comps and also set more volume boulders or routes.
Sam’s secret talent
My secret talent is setting party trick boulders
